Dehumidification:
Bugged by poor indoor air quality? Asthma and allergies out of control? Your home may have turned into the source of these problems instead of a sanctuary from them!
It is not the heat, it is the humidity. This is a saying that you have likely heard before. What you should know is that high humidity levels in your residence can create sever health problems. When your air conditioning system is not removing enough humidity, the relative humidity in your residence remains above 60% greatly increasing the possibility that your home may be affected by indoor air pollution. High Humidity levels create a breeding ground for mold, fungi, dust mites, and many other biological contaminants. Poorly maintained indoor coils and blower assemblies are one of the many causes of high indoor humidity, another culprit is duct leakage and oversize equipment.
Improving the ventilation of indoor spaces and correcting the abovementioned problems may reduce the relative humidity. However, there are some cases in which high humidity persists. Especially during the months in which the air conditioning system does not operate due to the outdoor climatologic conditions.
There are three key components to healthy air. It must be fresh, clean, and have the proper humidity (less than 50% relative humidity). Maintaining relative humidity below 50% and proper filtration prevents dust mite infestation, mold and mildew growth, and inhibits bacteria growth as well.
